How it works for student creators

come up with an idea, composition or concept
register and launch a project on Bertie
develop your project
raise money
make your idea real

Create - If you can think and breathe, then you can come up with ideas. No idea is ever too small or silly. If someone did not think up toilet paper, imagine how unpleasant life would be today!

Start - Register on to open an account. If you are under 18 years old, then you need to submit a Parent Consent and Student Responsibilities Agreement (by email or an original signed printout).

Build - Tell about your project. Upload pictures and a video (highly recommended), tell potential Sponsors about you and how you came up with the idea, calculate a fundraising target, plan your marketing campaign and set a campaign length (usually 30 days) and then go “Live!” We have lots of resources to help you along the way.

Run - Market your project to everyone you know...and even to people you don’t know (be sure to read our Tips for Online Safety). A secret to success is to get as many people as possible to be your “Champions.” They work to help you reach potential sponsors, come up with new marketing channels and support you throughout your campaign. Go Champions!

Make - When you hit your fundraising target, money gets collected and you can get going! Design stuff, buy stuff, print stuff, make stuff and ship stuff to your Sponsors. Afterwards, it helps to spend some time reflecting on what you have learned and what you could have done better. If you did not hit your fundraising target, just try again!
